DALLAS (February 2013) -- Three women, with one great idea, turned a poolside cocktail party into a nationally distributed product line.
Skimpy Mixers, a new line of low-calorie, low-sugar drink mixers made from real fruit juices, started with one delicious product. The orange cream-flavored concoction created to mimic the taste of a sugar-filled drink enjoyed by the three founders was recently introduced to 10 representatives of the Republic National Distributing Company.
“They told us it was the best mixer they’d ever tasted and they couldn’t believe it was low in calories,” remembers Megan Toole, President and CEO of Dallas-based Skimpy Mixers. “They asked if we had a distribution agreement yet, which we didn’t. They asked if we had any other flavors, which we didn’t. So we went back to the lab and created four more flavors from our base mix.”
Despite being told by a liquor consultant that she would never sell Republic without putting on a dog and pony show, Toole trusted her instincts and proceeded with her planned approach. Shortly thereafter, the entire Skimpy Mixers line – including Orange, Pineapple, Berry Lemonade, Skimpy Margarita and Sweet n’ Sour – is part of the Republic family of brands.
